Interview With ¡maRtiAnaiR9!: The Musical Artist On A Come Up

Q. Hello, ¡maRtiAnaiR9!! We appreciate your time spent speaking with us. The first question we have for you is, "What first drew you to music?

A: I've had an interest in music since I was a child, but also, I genuinely think I was born with it. Once people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said either an NBA player or a rap artist. I was in band in middle school, and I'd say my family had a small influence, or perhaps you could say initiated the spark in them to desire to be artists. My sister wanted to be a musician as well, and when I was about 12 years old, we used to have this laptop and this software called cool edit pro, which we used to record songs all night and research artists from young money. It wasn't until 2018, after I graduated from high school, that I decided I wanted to take music seriously and pursue a career as an artist.

Q. Who are your musical influences and why?

A. I've always been a student of the game, and I've always studied artists like Chief Keef, Young Thug, Playboi Carti, and others, but growing up, my influences were J.Cole and Young Money because I admired what great lyricists and storytellers they were, and how they painted a picture in their music. As time passed and music began to evolve, I became interested in artists such as Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi, Vert and juice world. Also, Lil Wayne Young Thug and Playboy Carti are some of the musical and fashion pioneers of the rockstar image. I also admire how Playboi Carti and Young Thug use their voices in their music as instruments.

Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

A. As I previously stated, I did not begin to take my music career seriously until 2018, after I graduated. From 2018 until the pandemic, I struggled to find my identity as an artist. Quarantine helped me a lot in perfecting my craft and discovering myself as an artist because I didn't have anything else to do but that lock in. In May 2020, I released my first EP, "Different Breed," on Soundcloud and received a small amount of attention without any real promotion.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?'

A. In five years, I see myself doing the same thing I'm doing now, but at a higher level, if that makes sense. I see myself traveling the world, pursuing my dreams and spreading awareness and knowledge through my music. I do not want to put a limit on myself; therefore, I simply do my best to work hard, stay consistent, and see where the universe takes me.

Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?

A. The future belongs to the youth.... Find your good, align it with your purpose, and build the life you want for yourself in the future.
