Interview With Emerging Musical Artist Jay Compo

Q. Good day, Jay CompoWe appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?

A. I started making music when I was 12 going on 13. My uncle and I were sitting up late night playing 2k 12 and ended up rapping to the instrumentals. Since then, I've just been practicing and working on my skills. When I was 16, I shot my first music video "Life is Short" to showcase my talent. I've been driven and motivated to stay ambitious in doing what I love, which is combining tunes and laying my vocals down. I literally put my soul into this music.

Q. Who are your musical influences and why? A.
My music influences are my uncle and my pops. They have always pushed me to be better and to become who I am now. My family pushes me the most; they've influenced me so much that I just can’t give up. I also made a promise to my best friend Arnishia, which I made a song about called "Letter To Arnishia". She pushed me the most, always on me every day, pushing my talent out, and not caring what anybody says or how they feel about it. And then there's my mom; she’s my biggest supporter, always behind me.

Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far? A. My biggest career highlight is working with DaBaby's producer, "I Am Dj Kid." He helped me get out there a little bit, and I’ve actually talked to him personally. He also inspired me and influenced me to keep working on my craft and building a catalog.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? A. In five years, I see myself helping other artists develop and get out of their shell, guiding them onto the right path.

Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?

A. I encourage all my fans to keep going up, never stay down too long. Never let anybody stop you or block your blessings. Always chase your dreams and stay motivated! Trust in the process, have patience, but strive and stay strong.
