Q. Good day, Flowers in the A.M! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?
A. I got into music through poetry. In high school, I wasn’t the type to stay in one place, so I had a lot of time to myself. During that time, I started writing about what I saw and felt. Being soft-spoken, I wasn’t always comfortable expressing those feelings vocally. Maybe it was fear of judgment, but I was definitely not confident in my musical abilities.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. In real life, my influences are Willonwater, Genesis Renji, Vincent Van Great, Chevpskvte, Sleeze & Mo City, and Troy Tyler. For artists I haven’t met, definitely Smino, Isaiah Rashad, Erykah Badu, Summer Walker, Ari Fasho, Larry June, Bob Marley, The Dirty Heads, Angie Stone, and Joe. Each of them has influenced me in different ways. Soca music and Amapiano, which I didn’t list, also helped me open up, and I feel like these artists did the same for me.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. Dropping a song has been a big highlight for me. I guess, so far, it’s just been about trusting my authentic self, which I’m cool with now.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. Chillin’ and helping others do so through my own reflective experiences in music and art.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. Chill. It’s worth it.
