Q. Good day, Pab Montega! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?
A. I first got into music through my older cousins and uncles. I distinctly remember hearing “Nightmares of the Night” and being hooked. Watching Video Music Box and listening to Marley Marl’s radio show also had a huge influence on me. I initially wanted to be a DJ but didn’t have turntables, so I always had pen and paper around and started writing on anything I could find.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. As for my musical influences, I’d say Nas, AZ, and Prodigy are at the top. Since hearing “Live at the Barbeque,” I knew this was my path.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. My biggest career highlight so far has been recording and making history with my brothers from the neighborhood. Growing up with Mr. Rippley, who’s been like a big brother to me through it all, is the ultimate achievement for me.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. Looking ahead five years from now, I envision myself showcasing my greatness with a substantial catalog. Balance and poise are crucial to me, and hard work will prove everything. It’s about everyone at the table succeeding together.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. To my fans and supporters, I want to say that we create this music for you, but it’s also our lifeblood. We find common ground to produce soulful content. I believe our rap is like chicken soup—it hits differently and reminds you of the golden era. Our fan base is mature and discerning, which motivates me to be the best version of myself. Your support means everything—the Gaucho.
