Q. Good day, Diabloe! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?
A. I got into making music from always being surrounded by it as a kid. Michael Jackson was one of the first artists who really sparked my interest; I had never heard anyone like him before. I’ve always felt a deep personal connection to music, but it wasn’t until I became a teenager that I realized I had a natural gift for it.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. My musical influences range from Lauryn Hill, Sade, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi, Chief Keef, Future, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Dipset, DMX, and Migos. I’ve also been a huge fan of rock music, especially bands like Nirvana, Nickelback, and Three Days Grace. These artists, to me, are the greats, and I’ve learned so much from listening to their music—especially when it comes to rapping. I’ve taken my personal experiences and life lessons and used them to experiment with different melodies, flows, and punchlines. Lil Wayne, in particular, inspired me with his punchlines, and I make sure to include plenty of them in my songs. I don’t want my raps to be too simple; I like when my lyrics fly over people’s heads and make them think.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. Even though I’m new to the rap scene, one of the biggest highlights of my career so far has been getting recognition from people in the music industry. Having them congratulate my music, wish me success, and even want to collaborate with me has been a huge motivator. I’ve met some genuine people who truly want to see me succeed.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In the next five years, I see myself doing shows, starting a clothing brand, and getting into real estate. I want to be more than just a rapper—I want to be successful in multiple areas, like how Donald Glover is more than just an artist. I also plan to start an independent label to sign and develop artists who have potential, helping them reach their fullest potential.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. One message I have is: don’t let anyone gatekeep or stop you from doing what you love. Stay true to yourself and don’t follow anyone else’s wave.
