Interview With Monty Starr: A Journey Fueled by Passion and Talent

Q. Good day,
Monty Starr! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?

A. Well, I’ve always been in love with music—different sounds, tempos, beats; it all just made sense in a world that didn’t. I will say though, actually recording and hearing myself on track is not what I imagined myself doing… at all. So, definitely a full-circle moment.

Q. Who are your musical influences and why?

A. I have 3 top musical influences, in no particular order: 2Pac, Michael Jackson, and Prince. Tupac’s poetry is what won me over. Studying his rise to fame is truly one of the most beautiful journeys I’ve seen in music. His resiliency to stay true to himself no matter what is nothing short of inspiring, and he never cared about the next opinion, no matter who it came from. Prince and Michael Jackson are the same way in terms of influence. They both saw a mold in music, and they both broke the molds of their genre, era, and music times. They pretty much bent the gender roles of the “norm” and elevated them.

Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

A. So far, my biggest highlight of my career hasn’t
happened yet, honestly. Everything that has happened has been part of the process, and no accomplishments have been made as far as “big highlights.” I definitely celebrate the small wins, but big highlights deserve their own spots when God decides it’s my turn for greatness.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A. Still climbing the ladder of my music journey. Hopefully finishing up planning my debut album for my fans who are hungry for it, and gearing up for even more interviews, even more stages, and even more magazine spreads. I envision myself reaping my fruits and prayers tenfold, no doubt.

Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters.

A. If it’s January 2025, and it snowed 9 inches in Florida, your dreams can definitely come true. It just takes you to believe in them.
