A Conversation with Lil Shipuden: Adding Vision and Substance to the New Wave of Artists

Q. Good day, Lil Shipuden! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?

A. He started getting into making music in his high school years about 5–6 years ago. There were times when friends and he would freestyle at lunch, or there would be rap battles at the school events that sparked his initial talent. As his friends started taking it more seriously, so did he, but he’s always had a passion for music growing up. Starting his career in music was interesting to say the least; it was a way to release anything on his mind or talk about life experiences in a way other than just having a conversation about it—it was deeper than that. Since then, there have been many ups and downs, moments where he felt like giving up, but also moments where he thought, “Wow, this is going to be it. I’m going to be famous.” It seems like more recently he’s had those types of moments—the ones where he feels way more confident that he’s going to make it in life, like his goals and everything he’s worked for are completely worth it.

Q. Who are your musical influences and why?

A. He’d have to say three big influences on him and his music career have to be Juice WRLD, Trippie Redd, and XXXTentacion. The reason they influence him so heavily is because, in a way, their music feels like a “high.” They’re very versatile but also have a melodic, healing sense to them that makes it easier to relate to and connect with their music.

Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

A. One of the biggest career highlights he’s experienced so far has to be his opportunity to open for Dave Blunts in New York. Opportunities like this make him feel confident that he’s doing the right things and talking to the right people that help him push to find new experiences that get his name out there and possibly widen the amount of supporters he has.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

A. In five years, he can imagine that he’s started his family, possibly slowing down on his music career to focus on growing his family and raising his kids to be successful like him. He hopes that by then he will have a successful clothing brand and possibly other businesses. In shorter words, he hopes that by then his dreams will have come true.

Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters.

A. If he could give any type of message to all of his supporters, it would be… thank you. Thank you for the support and motivation that pushes him to do better. He wouldn’t be where he is today without all of them. Never give up on your dreams. If he could use his life story to push them all, like they have for him, he would. He loves them all and will continue to be an influence to them in the ways they need it the most.
