Q. Good day, Haji Bey! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?
A. I got into music just coming up in the late ’90s and early 2000s. I feel like it was really easy to get inspired by the music I grew up on. I started taking it seriously around 2015, started going to studios, dropping music, and performing. And around 2018 or so, me and my brotha Basecrookz started linking more to create music together. He creates most of my beats and other things. We’re just pushing to succeed and get where we always wanted to be with this music.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. I listened to artists like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, and Chris Brown, just to name a few I enjoy that create music. Growing up, I would write music and just create melodies I thought sounded good in my head. I would make little freestyle videos and everything—I really enjoyed it.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. My biggest career highlight, I think, would be in 2018 when a song or two played on Power 98.3 and I got interviewed. It’s a popular radio station in PHX. That felt pretty cool. And just doing shows, interviews, and networking with new people, and learning new things to get better as an artist. Since 2015, it’s been progress, but I’m trying to take it further than I ever did before.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In five years, I see myself as a bigger and global artist, finally living my dream to the fullest with my brothas. I want to be on that stage performing at Rolling Loud and hear people singing along to my songs. I want to be able to take care of myself and my people I’m close to with no problems.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. My message to fans and supporters is to keep pushing and don’t ever let anyone stop your motion. Always think and do positive because that same energy will come back to you.
