Q. Good day, SullySoRicch! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
A. I believe I don’t have a specific sound because every track from me can be so different from any other track I’ve made. I would definitely describe myself as having a versatile sound if you had to, though, because I have so many different vibes—whether it’s trap rap, pain music, singing, actually rapping, songs about death, about trials and tribulations, about sex, or about creating the right circle. Every song has a message, and I deliver them in different ways.
Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist? Why that one?
A. I would definitely say that, for the moment, with my released songs, the one that defines me as an artist is my single “Poetical.wav”—available on all platforms. It’s the song I made for my dead homie’s mom, telling her how he and I made a promise to blow up together. And since he’s passed, I now have to carry that on by myself—and I will.
I have a song coming soon that dives a little deeper into this, so that will be the one when it releases.
Q. What role does production play in shaping your music — do you produce your own tracks or work closely with certain producers?
A. Production plays a bigger role, in my opinion, than my own sound or lyrics. If I don’t have a beat that can’t support my voice but uplift it, then I won’t rap or sing on it. I work very closely with my producers, making almost every beat custom to my liking.
Q. How do you approach writing lyrics — are your songs more personal, fictional, or a mix of both?
A. The approach I have with writing is I rarely write to my beats. Most of them are me punching in, because I truly enjoy letting my heart out with what I’m feeling at that moment.
Q. Are there any genres or styles you haven’t explored yet but want to experiment with in the future?
A. I haven’t experimented with hard rock yet, and that’s something I feel I have a good and powerful voice for. It’s just not my vibe, so I haven’t found an instrumental or beat that I really like yet.
