An interview With Scxr: How Embracing Risk Helped him Become His True Self in Music

Q
. Good day, Scxr!
We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?

A. I would describe my sound to someone who’s never heard my music before as ever-changing.

Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist? Why that one?

A. When it comes to a specific song in my catalog that I feel defines who I am as an artist, it’s my track called “J. Cole’s Prodigy.” It’s just a song that really speaks to me.

Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

A. If I could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, it would be XXXTentacion. He was one of the reasons I started music.

Q. What's the biggest risk you've taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?

A. I’ve taken many risks in my career so far — going days on end depriving myself of basic necessities, being so locked in with my music that all I could do was hope to find my sound. So many failed projects and songs happened just because I wanted to fit in. But the biggest risk I can say I’ve taken was simply sounding like myself. And that can mean anything in the music world. I’ve learned that without risk, there’s technically no experience gained.

Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?

A. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to my music, I would want them to know I listen to music to enjoy it. I make music because I live within the sound.
