Blending Genres, Breaking Boundaries: An Interview With Kayex: Crafting a New Sound From the Ground Up

Q. Good day, kayex!
We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?

A. I would want my music to be described as a fresh, unique blend of my favorite genres to someone who’s never heard my music before. Whether it’s hip-hop, R&B, metal, pop, jazz, EDM, etc. I’ve always been someone who appreciates any genre, and a big part of that was how my music taste changed as I grew up. I want to really push the norms of standard genres and experiment with the fusion of many cultures and sounds.

Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist?

A. If I had to pick one song in my catalog that I feel defines my artistry, I would choose CAtoNY! This is a song I made recently that really just reminded me how much fun it is to make music when you focus on just enjoying the process and letting the ideas come to you. This song made me realize a lot about myself as an artist, and I think it’s a very unique sound that hasn’t been seen yet.

Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

A. I have two answers for this. I think if I had to pick an artist of all time, I would choose Ye, since he is, in my opinion, the greatest producer of all time, and I think his artistic vision is truly unparalleled. I would love to see how he interprets my sound and style, and I believe he is an artist like no other. However, if I had to pick an artist at the moment, I would choose Slayr, who has been my biggest inspiration recently. It’s been so inspiring to see someone my age who really puts effort into their artistic vision and blows up as a result of their music. I feel like you can just tell he has a passion for music and wants to share it with the world, which really resonates with me.

Q. What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?

A. The biggest risk I’ve taken in my career thus far has been just putting myself out there. Even though I haven’t released music, I just wanted to share my ideas with whoever would listen, and I began posting snippets on my stories. Honestly, it’s just been really exciting and motivating to see the interactions I have, and it’s been so much more than I expected from some simple stories. I think it’s really important to just start showcasing your talents, even if you’re just starting out, because your skills will be recognized if you put yourself out there.

Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?

AIf this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, I hope anyone who listens to my music understands how much it means to me. Ever since I began making beats at the age of 12, it’s been my dream to be an artist and share my ideas with the world. I’ve had so much fun making these songs, and I hope you can hear it anytime you play my tracks.
