Q. Good day, Xayvien! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?
A. I’ve always had a passion for music. I started playing the drums when I was around 8 years old and was part of the school band throughout middle school. As I taught myself to play bass and guitar, everything started falling into place.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. My musical influences include Rick James, Patrice Rushen, Tame Impala, David Bowie, and Queen. I’m drawn to the sound of the 70s and 80s, and these artists have shaped how I craft the tone of my instruments and arrange my music.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. Playing a few live shows has been the most significant highlight for me. Even though performing in front of an audience terrifies me, it’s a thrilling kind of fear that reminds me I’m alive. Recently, getting to experience that has been amazing.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. I envision myself making music full-time and collaborating more extensively, working to expand and perfect my sound.
