Q. Good day, Cannon Chinchilla! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?
A. As a kid, I used to listen to music all night long. In elementary school, I was listening to Jay-Z’s The Black Album and other hip-hop artists my sister’s dad would play. I realized everything they were rapping about was the life we were actually living. That’s when I connected with raw, truthful music. I grew up rapping on the radio, battling kids and adults across South Carolina, and then I recorded my first song in a studio at 15. From that moment, it was on.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. I grew up on old Jay-Z, but honestly, everything hip-hop and R&B has influenced me in some way. I just love music with a deep passion. I’ve even taught myself to play instruments, and I was in the band (believe it or not). I’ve always had an ear for soulful and passionate music.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. One of my biggest highlights so far has been performing and traveling to different cities and states. I still believe the best is yet to come, but having people, even big names, respond to my music and say, “damn,” is always a huge moment for me.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In five years, I see myself and my team being as big as Roc-A-Fella was. I see myself performing on the biggest stages and being able to take care of my family while doing something I’m absolutely passionate about.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. To my supporters and fans, I just want to say thank you. The wait is almost over. Everything I drop now comes with a chip on my shoulder—every piece of art will be fire and straight from the soul. I’m done playing around and being humble.
