Q. Good day, One Kay! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is What made you want to become a musician?
A. My sister heavily influenced me and my mother. They used to have me up all night singing and rapping old school songs.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. My top musical influences are Lil Wayne, Future, Rich Homie Quan, and Migos. The reason I looked up to Lil Wayne is because, lyrically, he’s unmatched—he makes you think twice about what he says. Future hits different; he’s one of a kind and a Scorpio. I feel like he says what men want to say without consequences. Rich Homie Quan’s melodies always triggered me on a melodic level; it seemed like he just always hit the right notes. As for the Migos, they changed the way everyone rapped, and their style is still relevant today. They came with a different style at the right time for hip-hop.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. My biggest highlight of my career was Future co-signing the record label I created, Young Freebandz Gang (YFBG), and giving me and my label mates a partnership deal with his label, Freebandz Entertainment. Him also doing a collaboration with me on a song was a huge highlight.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In the next five years, I see myself with platinum plaques, a few Grammys, and, if not the biggest artist in the industry, at least top three.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. One message I have for all my fans and supporters is: stay locked in with me. Without you guys, there’s no “One Kay.” From day one, if you’ve been here, you know I climbed, struggled, and really put the work in for the position I have now. It only gets better with time. Keep it 1K and follow your dreams.
