Q. Good day, Ayo Whyze! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?
A. I’ve always been musically talented. I started off playing the drums and guitar, then ran across a hip-hop artist by the name of Wiz Khalifa. I would always rap over his songs. As I got older, I started going to parties, and some other guys there would drink and freestyle. So I tried it one night and realized I didn’t sound bad. Everyone was impressed, so it became a normal thing I did on the weekends. Eventually, I ran into someone who engineers and produces music, and I recorded my first song. I’ve been going at it since then.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. My musical influences are Juice WRLD—I can relate. I feel like me and him had a lot of things in common just from hearing the pain in his music. I thought it was pretty nice. Tupac—his music stood out to me more than any other MC back then! And he was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. My biggest career highlight is the song with Skinnyfromthe9. I’ve also opened up for Philly Freeway, Matt Ox, and Chevy Woods.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In five years, I see myself making a living doing what I love to do. Just gotta have faith that this music will take me places.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. My message to my fans and supporters is: if you have a passion in anything, don’t waste that—DO IT. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t, because you can.
