Q. Good day, Daunte! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?
A. I didn’t grow up doing music. I was a basketball player out the womb. That was my outlet for everything. After my injury in high school, it just didn’t feel the same. Music had found me and my dad does music, so I guess eventually I would be crossing paths with it.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. There are a lot of musical influences that I’ve gravitated towards. If I had to name a few, I’d say people like Drake, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, J. Cole, 2 Pac, Usher, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson. That’s just a few to name, but I feel like they’ll be remembered as some of the greatest. The way they all approached the game and the records they’ve created is just incredible—from lyricism, beat selection, delivery, impact, voice, hits, and more.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. My biggest career highlight has been how quickly I developed myself as an artist—from my lyrics, sound, flow, delivery, to beat selection. 2020 was really when I showed what I can offer to the game. I released my first project, “New Roads.” I still needed work but showed high potential. In 2021, I made a collab project, “Set In Stone,” with my brother Brandon J — go check him out too. Not even a complete year later, my lyrics and sound changed. In 2022, I took time to really coach myself. 2023 to current speaks for itself honestly when you go listen. I’m versatile.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. In five years, I see myself selling out shows, doing features with big artists, maybe some endorsements, you know. Hopefully being able to get my mom a house and out of debt, along with my grandma. That’s just a little preview.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
A. One message I have for my fans and supporters is that I appreciate everyone for staying patient with me. I’m always working behind the scenes; more music is on the way. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for y’all. Never quit on your dreams. Much love.
