Q. Good day, MoneyMadeJay! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is How did you get into making music?
A. I used to always sit around and freestyle with my brother Daniel, and he pushed me to take it to the next level. It was never my intention to go this hard—I guess I was born for this. I’ve been doing this for 7 years now. I started on an iPhone and GarageBand, mixing my own stuff—terribly.
Q. Who are your musical influences and why?
A. I have a lot of musical influences ranging from artists like NoCap and, honestly, Kendrick Lamar. Even though the sound is nothing similar, I try to mix things up in my own way and be completely original.
Q. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
A. Not only am I a music artist, I’m also a full-time mixing engineer. I started out in my bedroom doing this, and I hated the fact that it cost so much—so I learned it. I learned a lot from my basically older brother at this point, DB.Mix. I opened up Top Tier Studios in 2022 out of my house, and it took off like I never expected it to. I feel honored that so many people have trusted me with their sound the way they have. I now work full-time at StarlightStudios in Dalton, Georgia, with David Salazar as a recording and mixing engineer. It feels crazy to be able to fully mix and master almost all of my own music on a professional scale.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Man, that’s hard to say because anything can happen at any moment, but I work hard every day to try to be in a different place than now. I love Chattanooga, Tennessee, but truthfully, I don’t think this is the place for me in my future. Hopefully, in the next 5 years, I can at least be somewhere more serious, with other like-minded individuals like myself.
Q. What Is One Message You Have for Your Fans and Supporters?
My message to my fans and supporters is: Remember, when it rains, it pours—but when that sun shines, you will feel it from hundreds of miles away. You’re not alone out here. If you ever feel lost or like you’re the only one going through some type of pain or feeling hopeless, I highly encourage you to check out my last two albums. I was in a very, very dark place in my life, and these songs were basically a tour through that whole storm it may help you.
