Q. Good day, Wa$hington! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
A. I would describe my sound to someone who’s never heard my music before as primarily trap with some pop-rap and hip-hop influences. Imagine the lyricism of J. Cole paired with the production of Travis Scott, and you’ll have Wa$hington.
Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist? Why that one?
A. A specific song in my catalog that I feel defines who I am as an artist is my biggest song, “Raincheck.” It represents me as an artist. It has such a catchy hook, heavy bass, and lyrics that can go over someone’s head. I like to disguise thought-provoking bars within songs that seem carefree.
Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
A. If I had the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, living or dead, it would be my favorite artist, Lil Uzi Vert. I think we could make something very special.
Q. What's the biggest risk you've taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?
A. The biggest risk I’ve taken in my career so far is taking time off for inspiration. Obviously, as an underground artist, you need to constantly hustle and drop music, but the quality of the songs may go down over time. I learned to take time off for myself and detach myself as a person from the art.
Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?
A. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to my music, I would want them to know that new music is on the way. I’ve been locked in, working on a project called “Abyss” that I think will shake things up in the music industry. Keep running me up in the meantime
