From Immigrant Life to Indie Dreams: A One-on-One Interview with Rising Music Star Ari Sofas

Q. Good day, Ari Sofas!
We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?

A. I would describe my musical sound to someone who’s never heard my music before as mostly indie, with a lot of psychedelic and R&B influence.

Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist?

A.specific song in my catalog that defines me as an artist would probably be 'American Land.' I think this defines me best because it’s about my life coming to America and experiencing this life—finding love and loss through being an immigrant.

Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

A. If I could collaborate with any artist, it would probably be either The Smiths or Tame Impala because I believe that both of the music they make is genius. They can create such emotions and experiences with just sound, and sometimes no voice at all.

Q. What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?

A. I haven’t really taken very many risks in my musical career so far, but I've soon realized that maybe I need to in order to further grow in my music career.

Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?

A. If this interview were the last thing someone read before listening to my music, one thing I would want them to know is that I’m trying to encapsulate my human experience as best as I can through my thoughts and what I see.
