Q. Good day, BANKROL DYLAN! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
A. I would describe my sound as underground, distorted, emotional, and unpredictable. I don’t really put myself in a genre because I make whatever reflects how I feel in the moment. It’s not supposed to sound too clean or too perfect. Sometimes it’s aggressive, sometimes it’s numb, but it always feels real.
Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist?
A. All of the songs in my catalog, honestly. Every song is just whatever’s going on in my head or my life at that moment. I don’t really sit there trying to make a perfect song or fit into one sound. I just record how I feel, and that’s what makes the music real to me.
Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
A. XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD would be my choice if I could work with any artist, living or deceased. They were both legends to me because they made music straight from emotion and never sounded like anybody else. They weren’t scared to be vulnerable or experiment with different sounds, and that’s what made people connect with them so deeply. Their music really changed a generation.
Q. What has been the biggest risk you've taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?
A. The biggest risk I've taken in my career so far has been stepping away from being a content creator, where I was doing pretty well for a few years, and fully investing in myself as an artist. I felt like I wasn’t really doing enough, like I had more to say and a story I wanted to tell through music. I struggled with caring about what people would think or say about me, but I realized I couldn’t move forward if I let that control me. I learned that betting on yourself is scary, but if you really believe in your vision, you’ve got to go all in and let everything else follow.
Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?
A. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to my music, I’d want people to know the music is real. Every song is just me, my mindset, my emotions, and everything I’m going through in life. I want it to feel raw, like you can see right through me without having to overthink it. The energy is strong, and it connects with whoever it’s supposed to connect with. Just tap in, feel it, and let it hit however it hits.
── BANKROL DYLAN is an artist who prioritizes emotional honesty over genre or structure. He consistently describes his sound as raw, distorted, and unpredictable, emphasizing that his music is driven by feeling rather than a desire for perfection or categorization. Rather than identifying a single defining track, he views his entire catalog as a continuous expression of his mindset and life experiences, suggesting a process-oriented approach to creation where each release reflects a specific moment in time.
