Q. Good day, Gelato Banks! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how did you come up with your artist name, and what does it represent to you?
A. The name Gelato Banks was born from a moment of inspiration during a creative session at my mother’s house. While smoking Gelato (cannabis) and reflecting on the success, wealth, and legacy I intended to establish, the word "banks" came to mind as a symbol of financial abundance and long-term vision. I combined the two, creating Gelato Banks—a name that represents ambition, confidence, creativity, and the mindset of turning dreams into reality. Since that moment, Gelato Banks has become more than just a stage name. It has evolved into my identity as an artist and entrepreneur, representing my commitment to building a brand rooted in authenticity, resilience, and success.
Q. What has your journey as an artist been like up to this point?
A. My journey as an artist has been filled with both incredible opportunities and significant challenges. Before fully pursuing music, I worked as a phlebotomist at a plasma donation center, where I met people from all walks of life. Many of the donors saw something in me before I fully saw it in myself. They encouraged me to pursue my creativity and shared valuable advice about the music industry, including contracts, publishing, royalties, and protecting my work. At the time, I was simply focused on doing my job, but their belief in me planted a seed that would eventually change my life. Inspired by those conversations, I wrote and recorded my first song, “Pop It,” during my work breaks. That experience led to an opportunity to record at a youth recording studio, where I learned the importance of professionally recording my vocals, protecting my masters, and organizing my stems. As my confidence grew, I began writing music at my mother’s house. One of the first songs that deeply moved both of us was “ATS.” Seeing how much it touched my mother’s heart gave me the confidence to keep creating. I later collaborated with Tell ’Em T, whose support helped me stay connected to music during a time when I had very little. Music became more than a passion—it became an outlet for healing, growth, and transforming pain into purpose.

As I continued my journey, I connected with Troy Good, who gave me the opportunity to perform live for the first time. That experience marked the beginning of my career as a performing artist. From that moment forward, each opportunity opened the door to the next, shaping the path that continues to define my journey today. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with highly successful individuals who inspired me to think bigger while also encountering people who attempted to use my creativity against me in ways that tested my confidence. Those experiences taught me that true artistry comes from both the heart and the mind. It requires passion, authenticity, discipline, and strategy. I’ve learned that there will always be critics, doubters, and people who question your vision. Their opinions don’t define my path. Staying focused on my purpose, trusting my abilities, and continuing to create with confidence are what have carried me forward. My message to anyone chasing a dream is simple: believe in yourself relentlessly, remain committed to your vision, and never allow anyone else’s limitations to determine how far you can go.
Q. What makes your music different from what listeners might hear from other artists in your genre?
A. Versatility is one of my greatest strengths. I create music that reflects my own experiences and emotions while giving listeners something they can genuinely connect with. My goal is to make music that uplifts people during their darkest moments, just as music has helped me navigate some of the most difficult seasons of my own life. I’ve never been interested in sounding like anyone else. Instead, my focus is on creating an authentic sound that reflects who I am while encouraging others to embrace their own individuality. I believe every person has a unique story and voice, and I want my music to inspire people to express themselves without fear and become greater than the circumstances they’ve overcome. My artistry is rooted in authenticity. I don’t create music to chase trends or fit into a particular lane. I create music that speaks from real-life experiences, balancing vulnerability with ambition and emotion with resilience. That’s what makes my sound unique—it’s honest, fearless, and created with purpose.
Q. What was the moment that made you realize you wanted to pursue music seriously?
A. The moment that made me realize I wanted to pursue music seriously came when the encouragement I received from the donors at the plasma donation center turned into action. Their belief in my creativity motivated me to record my first song, “Pop It,” and once I stepped into a professional recording environment, I realized music was something I wanted to pursue wholeheartedly. That feeling only grew stronger after writing songs like “ATS,” seeing the emotional impact my music had on my mother, collaborating with artists who believed in me, and eventually performing live for the first time. Every milestone confirmed that music wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was my calling. From that point on, I committed myself to becoming the artist I knew I was capable of becoming.
Q. What message or energy are you trying to bring to listeners through your music?
A. The message behind my music is simple: live with purpose, lead with confidence, and never allow your future to depend on someone else’s approval. I believe in building your own legacy, embracing your individuality, and finding the strength to keep shining even through life’s darkest moments. My music is created from the balance of soul and ambition. It reflects both vulnerability and resilience, blending raw emotion with an unwavering determination to overcome adversity. That balance has shaped my artistry into something fearless, authentic, and deeply personal. I don’t create music to follow trends or to please everyone. I create it for the fighters, the dreamers, and the people who refuse to let hardship define them. It’s for those who rise above the obstacles that were meant to break them, transform their pain into purpose, and choose to become stronger because of everything they’ve endured. If my music leaves listeners with anything, I hope it’s the belief that they have the power to transform pain into purpose, adversity into ambition, and obstacles into opportunities. My goal is to inspire people to recognize their own strength, embrace their greatness, and never let anyone dim the light they were born to shine. At the end of the day, I want listeners to walk away feeling empowered. If my music inspires even one person to believe in themselves, pursue their purpose, and keep moving forward despite the challenges they face, then I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do as an artist.
