A Conversation with Yxngdagger: The Story Behind ‘Heard’ and His Defining Sound

Q. Good day, Yxngdagger! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?

A. I would describe my sound to someone who’s never heard my music before as heartfelt, motivating, angry, and cloud-type sounds.

Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist?

A. A specific song that describes me is my track “Heard”! It captures my emotions I’m going through and towards people and other artists.

Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

A. If I had the opportunity to collaborate with artists, dead or alive, I would have loved to work with the late XXXTentacion. As far as those who are alive, Luci 4 and Matt Proxy—that’s my dream collab because they're pushing the same agenda.

Q. What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?

A. The biggest risk I've taken in my music career was starting low-key. I didn’t believe in myself at first, but I fell in love with it and learned how much I loved it!

Q. If this interview was the last thing someone read before listening to your music, what would you want them to know?

A. If this interview were the last thing someone read before listening to my music, I would want them to know if you’re going to check my music out, just know I love all of y’all and hope you enjoy my music—I do it for y’all!
