Q. Good day, mistamaxpayne! We appreciate you taking the time to speak with us. The first thing we want to know is, how would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?
A. I’d describe my sound as very versatile and heavily inspired by the last 10 years of music, while also trying to connect with listeners who come from the past 20 or 30 years of music culture. Sonically, my music leans toward the younger generation, but the messages and meaning behind it are meant for older audiences to understand and relate to as well. I don’t just make music for myself—I create for the people who inspire me, the people I care about, and the listeners who connect with what I have to say.
Q. Is there a specific song in your catalog that you feel defines who you are as an artist?
A. No, I’d really say I try to take from a lot of different stuff, people, and sounds on every song I do and just kind of make everything off the rip, freestyle mode, when I’m in the studio, even with production. It’s all just flow state. I’m not really thinking about inspiration. I’ve just heard a lot of music, listened to a lot of music, and made it without trying to overthink it, just believing in my skillset.
Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
A. If I could collaborate with any artist, it would definitely be Future, hands down, no debate — that’s my dream collaboration. I’d also love to work with artists like Ken Carson and Carti, obviously. Realistically though, probably some of the people in Oway or ohsxnta. I really f*** with Reign too.
Q. What has been the biggest risk you've taken in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?
A. It has definitely been the dumb stuff I did growing up in bad environments. Some I was forced into, and some I wasn’t, but you live and you learn.
